16 Surprising Things You Can Buy at Costco

You probably already know some of the unusual items—from tires to prescription drugs—that you can get at Costco. But there are a lot of discoveries to be made in the repository.

We’ve checked out some of the lesser-known items you can buy from or through Costco. Included are purchases that you can make in a Costco store, purchases available on the Costco website, and goods and services that Costco jointly sells with third parties.

Just note that with Costco, products can come and go. Also, its availability may depend on where you live or the location of the store.

How many of these elements surprise you?

1. Insurance

Costco has included insurance in its offerings. By linking up with established players, Costco Insurance Agency offers:

  • Home and Auto Insurance through Connect, backed by American Family Insurance
  • Dental insurance through Delta Care American Dental Plans
  • Life insurance is sold jointly with the Protection Life Insurance Co.

2. Pet Medicines

Costco pharmacies have low prices on prescription drugs – for both people and their pets.

To get started, have your vet send your animal’s prescription to a Costco pharmacy. Or get a paper-based prescription to bring to Costco. Another way: Visit a Costco pharmacy to ask the pharmacist to send a prescription request to your vet.

3. Mortgages

You can even find a mortgage to buy a home through the Costco Members Mortgage Program. Or refinance your existing mortgage.

Costco does not sell mortgages. Costco Mortgage Services Company provides Costco members the services of a leading mortgage company. These companies typically connect mortgage applicants with mortgage lenders and mortgage originators.

4. Vacations

Costco Travel can book your prepaid travel. The domestic travel agency says this includes hotels, rental cars, theme parks and cruises.

Travel packages that include hotels and air travel can also be purchased in locations such as Tahiti, Africa, Costa Rica, Fiji, the Caribbean, Mexico and Europe.

5. Identity theft protection and credit control

Costco sells subscriptions for identity theft protection and credit monitoring, starting at $8.99 per month for a single member.

This does not mean that you should or should pay for identity theft protection or credit monitoring at all.

6. Crates and jars

Costco has a selection of boxes and jars. Cremation vessels start around $90, casket prices start just under $1,150 and range from $1,400.

The Federal Trade Commission requires funerals to accept a casket you purchased from an outside source, Costco says. However, Costco requires customers to notify their chosen funeral home of a Costco purchase within one day of ordering.

Costco boxes can be purchased and shipped to certain states only.

7. New and used cars

Shopping for a car? Include Costco in your hunt. The company offers both new cars and certified used cars.

Costco doesn’t actually do that Sell vehicles. The Costco Auto program cooperates with authorized dealers who meet certain criteria.

The vehicle search engine iSeeCars explains how the car software works:

“For each agency selected to be part of the program, only a few elite sellers are allowed to work with Costco customers. The highlight of the program is the pre-negotiated price that eliminates all hassle and haggling. After the sale, there is a dedicated customer service call center to help you with In case you are not satisfied with any aspect of your new vehicle.”

8. Caviar

Costco is known for its fresh and frozen meat and fish. Did you know that this includes canned caviar?

Caviar, a valuable and usually expensive delicacy, is the salted egg (roe) of sturgeon, a type of fish. Traditionally, caviar comes from the Caspian and Black Seas. It is now produced around the world and harvested from many fish.

9. Bottled water delivery

Costco is committed to savings on the delivery of bottled water to the home or office. By working with suppliers in most US markets, the large retailer says it offers exclusive pricing and options.

Before heading out to compare prices and deals for recreational vehicles, members may want to look at the “pre-set low costco member prices on many makes and models” that Costco advertises through the Costco Auto Program.

The website says authorized dealer contacts are trained to serve Costco buyers.

11. Musical instruments

Get your musical groove at Costco.com. The retailer’s website sells enough types of musical instruments to start a band.

For example, you’ll find everything from digital pianos – including digital grand pianos – to flutes, electronic drums, clarinets, keyboards, trumpets, and karaoke machines.

12. Wheelchairs and pedestrians

Costco.com sells several models of wheelchairs, walkers, and medical alarms. Walkers start at $110. Wheelchair prices are $200 or less.

13. Home generator

You can be prepared to power your home in the event of a power grid failure. Storms and disasters are less dangerous when you have an emergency home generator.

Costco sells smaller, portable generators and larger Honeywell generators.

14. Custom Closets

Are you ready to renovate your closets? Costco offers custom built cabinets and built-in components from Closet Factory.

The service also offers its services to those who want to design a home office, pantry, laundry room, entertainment center, and wall units. Even wall beds are available, and Costco sells systems design and installation.

15. Grass

At Costco, you’ll find artificial turf and artificial turf among your landscaping supplies.

Several types of natural lawn are available so you can create a new yard in an instant. If you do not appeal to artificial turf, you will find several types of artificial turf, also known as artificial turf. And it doesn’t stop there: Cover a running rug for dogs or a play area with artificial grass for pets.

16. Kitchen sink

When we recently checked in, Costco.com was showing 22 kitchen and utility sinks. In typical Costco style, products ranged from a simple freestanding, single bowl stainless steel sink, to commercial sinks and workstations.
