The Kominsky method treats end-of-life problems with humor


The increasingly bumpy road to old age requires humor to help ease the ride and encourage baby-boomers to plan ahead for end-of-life issues. Bette Davis is often credited with saying, “Old age is no place for bisexuals.”

Kominsky method Demonstrates how to age with a sense of humor. The award-winning Netflix TV series starring Michael Douglas as Sandy Kominsky, an aging coach, and Alan Arkin as Norman Newlander, his agent and longtime friend. The series parodies a host of issues of aging: the fear of dying, the planning of a funeral, the illnesses that could kill you, the growing number of medications and supplements we take, and yes, even estate planning.

Kominsky method It was produced from 2018 to 2021 and continues to stream on Netflix. It just started being available on DVD.

In season one, Norman’s wife dies of cancer, and Sandy supports his girlfriend through her death, honoring her wishes in planning the funeral, and convincing Norman that he has a reason to continue living. Sandy has his own issues to deal with: avoiding the topic of death, dealing with prostate problems, dating and relationships, and paying taxes to the IRS.

In later episodes, Norman addresses his grief and explores dating. Sandy faces the challenges of being the executor of the estate. Sandy’s ex-wife returns to his life, with lessons for those who need advance medical guidance. All these difficult topics are handled with a light touch which makes it easy to discuss after watching this series.
